The Importance of sound

This is pretty obvious. Without sound or music there would be no movie. Sound is such a important part of life really. It sets moods, helps you to create, causes you to dance in the showerand break your neck like an idiot. It's no wonder its such a important aspect to a movie to pick the right score. Just having a bad musical score for a movie could potentially decide its fate in the box office. While having a great one can boost the overall feeling and experience of the movie goer.

With that said I have two good examples of just how strongly music changes the feel of a movie.
Below are two links to the anime movie " Digimon Adventure "
Now before you say " Oh that crafty dork is trying to indirectly make us watch that silly Digimon movie. " This is not about the movie. What I'm doing here is showing you
the dynamic difference just music and sound can make.

First is the American Dub version
Skip to 0:38 of the video

and next we have the uncut original Japanese version
Because the Poster of this video is being a dum dum I have to put the link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNuTuvlkVpQ

Skip to 6:08 of that video.

Now after watching the two do you notice the big difference?

The American one changes the background music to the American Digimon theme which creates a fast pace feel,a sort of adrenalin rush. It also changes the mood from less grand to more action packed while also giving it a kiddy like flare. Add it with some scene deletions ( which America is famous for ) and you have a quick paced, kid's Saturday morning cartoon adrenalin fight!

Now when you watch the Japanese version at first you notice is the orchestrated music. Which slows down the action and yet still gives a Grandiose feel. Second the monsters voices aren't voice actors going " ARGGHH ". Which made the US version sound kiddy, By using actual stock audio clips of a eagle and dinosaur it created a more realistic menacing feel. Add in the ominous huge foot step noises you get a slightly more mature mood. As if your actually watching two colossal beast battling for supremacy in a packed city.

Both clips are entertaining yet give you a vastly different feel.

My Views on current "A" list cast movies.

In Hollywood there are many gimmick and formulas that they make as templates to use for movies. One gimmick that I've seen has been to gather popular "A" list stars and package them into a crappy, no appeal, dry, campy family movie type story line.Or they take just one popular actor and do the same thing. Usually the "A"list stars are now old and kinda washed up making this even worse. Some examples of these types of movies are Grown Ups , Old Dogs, Bed time Stories, Haunted Mansion , The Tooth Fairy...I really can't name more or I may just vomit. So anyway the big me at Hollywood release these movies with the feeling " Alright ! We have really famous stars in our picture thus people will come to see it !" And then like normal the dumb asses are surprised when their flicks bomb at the box office and become a laughing disgrace. Now why do they keep on failing and failing? Well its simple. Alot of Hollywood has forgotten that it's not the name that brings in the audience. It's in the presentation. You must not trade quality for an "A" list name. It would be like buying a new top of the line vehicle without an engine. As cool as it looks yo ass aint getting to the grocery store. Now do not get me wrong. There are plenty of movies with "A" list casts that are wonderful. But that's because they had a valid story behind them. Unfortunately that's not the case with many of them. And as time goes on people suffer from these very tacky movies made to just generate money. Which ironically they do the opposite. So what I'm saying here is as entertainers our main goal / obligation must be to entertain not hound for money. If you make something
that is legitimate and something YOU would actually watch yourself it will go much farther than selling out to just get money. And shame on the actors as well who accept these roles and belittle their careers just for some extra drug money (or whatever Hollywood types use their money for).

An example of a star that is ruining his good name is Adam Sandler. For a while if you heard " Adam Sandler " you knew the movie was gold and worth watching. I myself was a HUGE Sandler fan, I loved and anticipated his movies ( Little Nicky, Happy Gilmore , Water Boy, ect ) Now sadly I can barley respect the guy. He's selling out to these campy 2 dollar budget story lines ( Cough - Bed Time Stories ) and for what? Now he will be remembered for having good movies in the beginning then getting shitty as time went on. I don't know maybe it's just me but i'd rather just retire when things are golden so people will always have a good memory of you in their heads. Much like How Seinfeld and Everyone Loves Raymond ended their show for the same reason.

But in short I will just say this, the movie lots need to remember that Hollywood is for entertainment not for bull shit.

Till next time.

Hiya!

I'm Masai Asantewa and this is my first blog post for BUh Studio.
First let me introduce myself. I'm a 21 years old
and I am a cartoonist. I have alot of passions in life
but nothing gives me more joy than comics, animation
and everything in the entertainment industy. From
music to movies and pretty much everything.Because
of this passion I just recently opened BUHstudio.com
The site displays my weekly web comics and reviews from my good friend
Matt Patrick.

So what is the reason for bloging ? Well simply
I figured why not? What will this blog consist of ? Well to tell the
truth it will cover a variety of things. One could say
it will be the Seinfield of blogging. ( a blog about nothing )
From one blog post to the next I'll either talk about thoughts
I had during the day on certain subject matters whether it
be entertainment , social or comical. I'll also be giving
alot of input on my thoughts of the current situations of
entertainment industry. So In sort it will be more of a
"thoughts of the week" sort of deal on various random
subjects.

I hope you frequent BUHstudio.com often, because Matt and
I will be working hard to entertain you from week to week.
Any comments are welcome. I love to hear other's opinions!

Till next time :D
